Let Them Go

when you love someone, let them go…

oh the ways love tugs and tosses us,

kneads and knots us,

sculpts and softens us.

the unimaginable manners in which it tests our faith,

calling for our continuous surrender.

the delicacy, and yet simultaneous durability of it.

asking us to put our personal preferences aside on how we think it should be held,

and instead,

adapt to its ever-changing, ever-revealing nature and needs.

where we are asked, continually,

to apprentice ourselves to its wisdom -

though entrusted, not always immediately understood or even fit for us to stomach.

yet to be faithful enough to swallow the medicine that has found you -

whether sour or sweet -

believing in love that much.

that much,

to take its beckoning hand and walk the opposite road,

however dark and precarious the ground appears.

what courage,

to set love free

letting it be and become,

letting it shape you rather than you attempting to shape it.

staying open to its dynamic, hardly nameable,

perpetually morphing form,

all the while not grasping onto it.

for what is worth developing does not want to be stunted in hands that might constrict it.

this is the release that oxygenates the freedom

for even more love to find you.

when you love someone, let them go…

for this is to know,

the true place we call

unconditional
